Linux is a totally different from windows environment and how it operates.. For those people who are new to Linux(fedora) this topic is useful..
In linux we cannot access windows NTFS drive (in some linux distro we can not in Fedora)
but its not like linux doesnt like NTFS linux has built a utility that will help viewing NTFS partition thats called ntfsmount or mount.
so suppose you have multiple drive on linux and we want to know which one is NTFS or linux format.. to do this
use command fdisk -l
this will list all the partitions
eg...
/dev/sda1
or /dev/sdb1
/dev/sdb2
suppose sda1 is NTFS and we want to access data on our fedora,
create a folder name it whatever you want, I made a folder named it windowsDrive
So now if you want your fedora to every time show you windows drive inside the newly created folder, you need to mount your sda1 drive to that folder
so put this script line inside your etc/profiles file. i.e. located in etc directory of your fedora filesystem
mount /dev/sda1 /root/Desktop/WindowsDrive
Important points for shake users.
1. Now if you want your shake to run from terminal by typing shake, you can edit the same profile(located in etc directory) file.
add this line where you added mount script line.
PATH=$PATH:/usr/nreal/shake-v4.10.0606/bin
in my case shake version was 4.10.0606
2. another problem that a shake user usually faces is libstdc++.so.5 not found.
to fix this you can run this command in terminal yum install compat-libstdc++*
3. Always delete your shake temporary folder
its here /var/tmp/shake
4. Rendering from command line:
shake -exec "/media/SANZ/VFX_034_004/2D/SCRIPTS/Sc034_004_v016.shk" -v
will render out fileout node.
other useful options i use:
"-vv" shows progress of rendering
"-cpus 2" uses two cpu's
"-proxyscale Base" disables the proxies, and use base quality
"-t 1-100" overrides the timerange of the script with your new settings, here frame 1-100
5. Shake Flipbook from command line:
shake WIP/IC_VFX_034_004_v016.#.tga -t 1-10
Knowing the version of Kernal of your Fedora OS
Open up a terminal and type one of the following commands listed in bold text. uname -a (prints all information)
uname -r (prints the kernel release)
uname -v (prints the kernel version)
uname -o (prints the operating system)
Run VLC player on Fedora 7
Use RPM - LIVNA for F7 (available for x86, x86_64 and ppc)
Install livna-release-7.rpm for F7
$> su -
#> rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-7.rpm
#> yum install vlc
#> yum install python-vlc mozilla-vlc (optionnal)

Install WINE to run Windows application on Linux
yum install wine
Start Network Manager & use Wifi on Fedora
service NetworkManager start
Then you can start the applet:
NetworkManagerInfo
